This is an incredible design Mia. Every single element of the painting looks like it's been carefully curated and carries heavy symbolism. I hope your show at Corey Helford is going really well.

Amazing. Words fail me, other than the words used to inform you that words fail me.

So beautiful! Would you mind explaining any symbolism (I spy the apple earrings of Snow White)? I understand if you want to let the art speak for itself, but there feels like there are a lot of stories behind this art and I want to know what they all are!

oh my gosh, thank you everybody!!! :)

Dodies: Thanks for asking! There is a lot, but here's a little: Snow White has taken a bite of the apple (behind the flowers in her hair) and has fallen into deep sleep (submerged in it, like an ocean of sleep). However at this point she is about to be awakened (she has turned from the darkness at left and faces the lighter side on the right). The 7 dwarves are those clownish creatures (one of them is cut off at left and you can only see his arm here). Then of course all the other little bits mean something (spirits, the mask, the flowers, pearls, fan, etc), such as: "The dragonfly symbolizes going past self-created illusions that limit our growing and changing. Dragonflies are a symbol of the sense of self that comes with maturity." That, to me, is what Snow White's sleep (or in this case, her sonata) is all about.

well, the painting is gorgeous...it remembers me of the childhood in the countryside in summer...and, yes, i have a lot of things to comment on it.
Even though what we see is just material culture(flowers, dragonflies, spirits, fruits, etc), each of these elements can be connected to the spiritual world of the Snow White. In her hair, it is prefigured all her life: the early dreams about an untouched realm where the perfection can be found, then the maturity symbolized by flowers, dragonflies, the mask( which makes us think about the word "persona" associated usually with the passage from one life stage to another and the roles she has to play all this time), the woman reflected in her hair as the voice of the "step-mother", the supra-ego, which wants to annihilate the dreamlike universe of the girl using the power of the "fake-image"-the voice of the mirror. A whole universe of symbols which tells us the secret of the mythic White Snow: she is in each of us.
Indeed unique!

I just wanted to respond to dchip's comment - Mia submitted and approached us because she wanted her art to be added into the catalog. Yes, the quality of her art is exceptionally high, but that's not a reason she shouldn't go through Open Submissions. So far she's made a whole load of new fans with her work and there's been a really lovely dialogue between the artist and users of the site. We've all learned lots about the symbolism behind the piece. Seems like a win-win to me.
