Can you share a little bit about the piece and how you conceived of it:
Chombanautics is a psychedelic assembly of funky creatures that showed up in my mind. The old drooling seafarer might occasionally drink too much beer, but he guides you safely to the harbor of your personal luck. Inside are things we have to protect like trees and whales. Sometimes we forget that whales are our friends and we have to treat them well. You might need a whale one day that carries you to an safe island.
Are you a skater?
I was always fascinated by that culture when I was a teenage S.A.T. I still love to ride a nice bouncy longboard, just to enjoy the cruising. My first deck was a plastic skateboard in the late 80s.
If you were to describe your work to someone who’s never seen it, what would you say?
It’s urban design, art and contemporary character design. I am working as a free artist to make your world more colorful and happy.
What’s your creative process when producing a piece of art?
Before I start any project I scribble with my digital tablet. I get inspired by my artist buddies or by any object I see during my journeys through the streets of Berlin. If I like the sketch I redraw it in vectors and keep on manipulating and adding things until I like it. My best ideas come at night, and I always enjoy a nice cold Pils while designing.
Could you share an image of one of your latest sketches?

Would you share some things in your workspace that inspire you?
My vestax mixer, my 1210 turntable

and an original Nintendo game pad belt :)

What’s the art scene like where you live?
It’s amazing. There are plenty of great artists that live in Berlin because it is one the most affordable capitals in Europe with lots of empty spaces still and so much creative freedom. The city is very liberal and you can find crazy events all over the city.
What are you really into right now?
Right now I’ve gotten back to DJing and making live sets with my Macbook, playing tech house, deep house and minimal stuff and making tracks myself.
What would be on your quintessential mixtape?
I used to do a mixshow myself as Mr Phipson back in the days. On my mix tape you would find capoeira music from Brazil, jazz tunes, Hip Hop instrumentals, electronica and some dubstep wobble bass tracks.
What websites do you check out regularly?
Flickr, as I have many artists buddies there showing their art there. Spiegel keeps me updated with the news. I also regularly check out contest sites like a-better-tomorrow.com.
What are your vices/guilty pleasures?
I have too many, I prefer to keep them for myself… but who can’t resist some nice smelling dutch basil rolled up in thin paper.
What’s the first picture you can remember drawing as a child?
Airplanes with country codes and East German border stations.
What was your last memorable dream?
A nice girl showed up and made me happy :)
If you had to change careers, what would be next?
I would run a bar, make people drunk and play music all night long.
Are there any upcoming shows or projects you’d like to share?
Check me out playing as a DJ sometimes at various places in Berlin as “Ostblovski”, S.A.T art can be found soon in Argentina in various exhibitions organized by elebea.
What’s your motto?
Stay chomba all day! Live your live simple but live it juicy.
