Tell us about this piece.
This illustration is based on an article I read in the New York Times about a girl who went missing in the woods. They found no trace of her. I tried to show the figures as being trapped in the forest, struggling to escape. It’s a very tragic image.
If you were to describe your work to someone who’s never seen it, what would you say?
I would say that all of the illustrations I did are basically based on various traditional Asian motifs. In my work I use a lot of line work and patterns.
What’s your creative process when producing a piece of art?
Well, I normally sketch all the ideas that I possibly can think of. I also use Fashion and an advertisement design as a source of inspiration. These processes help me with producing a piece of art.
Could you share an image of one of your latest sketches?
I did my latest sketches when I was at Toronto downtown. It was a quick sketch while I was waiting for friends.
Would you share some unique things in your workspace that inspire you?
There are so many things in my work space that inspire me. If I had to choose three, I would say magazines, Korean traditional paintings, and lots of color.
What’s the art scene like where you live?
There are many art galleries in the downtown Toronto which I love to go out to visit.
What are you really into right now?
Illustration for sure. I am also into motion graphics as well.
What are your vices/guilty pleasures?
Watching a lot of films.
What’s the first picture you can remember drawing as a child?
When I was young, I remember that I kept trying to draw and paint trees all the time.
If you had to change careers, what would be next?
The next career would maybe be working as a motion graphic designer.
Are there any upcoming shows or projects you’d like to share?
I’ll be exhibiting some work at the CCTP Conference coming up on August 27th through the 19th (University of Toronto, Colony Ballroom).
