Can you share a little bit about the piece and how you conceived of it.
We are at a point where we need to change the way we see and think about our planet. We need to try and live a more sustainable life and try to leave a better world for future generations. This was my inspiration in creating this design.
What are your creative influences?
My influences are manga and anime (Saint Seiya, Dragonball Z, Naruto Shippuden, Full Metal Alchemist, Neon Genesis: Evangelion, and other 80’s and 90’s "classics.”) I also go for D.C. Comics and Warner Bros. animation (Justice League, Batman and Superman).
What was the defining moment in your childhood when you thought – I want to become an artist when I grow up?
When I was eight years old in elementary school, I was the best artist in class, so I got to make all the bulletin boards and anything slightly related to painting or drawing. My report card always had a teacher’s note that read: “please tell your child to abstain from drawing all the time in class.”
What’s the first picture you can remember drawing as a child?
The Smurfs
What’s your process in creating a piece of art?
I start by sketching a few expressive lines and little by little I add details of how I imagine the final product in my head… Then when the sketch is done I decide on the technique which best fits my idea.
What things have you seen recently that are going to inspire a piece of art?
Right now I’m kind of in a nature-appreciation mode. I have been searching the vast concrete jungle for little items of green that remind me of nature.
What’s the best compliment you’ve had about your art?
A cousin once said, after seeing a storyboard I made, that I had so much talent, I could be sipping margaritas and relaxing in another country.
What is your favorite color?
I tend to like greens and oranges.
Could you share three unique things in your work space that inspire you?
My collection of Saint Seiya action figures, my comic books and my music.
If your art was music, what would it sound like?
Pop
What music is rotating on your iPod?
Pop, rock, punk, 80´s, 90´s, electro, R&B, rockabilly, everything except Vallenato and reggaeton. That’s not even music.
What art do you have on your walls?
Posters from Japanese animated series, bands that I like, and drawings and designs from my brothers and friends
Can you describe your computer?
I have a laptop PC with Windows Vista. I´m using a conciencia planeta wallpaper at the moment.
What websites do you check out regularly?
Tamashi, Toei Animation, Infectious, Ice Planet, Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr.
What are your most treasured possessions?
My family and my pet.
What are your vices/guilty pleasures?
I´m addicted to peach flavored iced tea.
Any advice to other artists thinking about submitting artwork out there?
Do not think what to do, but do so from the heart and be professional in what is undertaken.
If you had to change careers, what would be next?
Nothing. This is my way.
Are there any upcoming shows or projects you’d like to share?
Yes, I’m working on some projects and will upload one of them onto Infectious when it is done.
