JP33

Dallas, United States

Bio

By day Jeremy Prasatik is an art director for Neiman Marcus, but at night he moonlights as a creator of beautiful sepia meets rainbow tinged landscapes. Jeremy's artistic career was kick-started by a broken ankle. As a college basketball (and obsessive Dallas Mavs fan) he yearned to make it all the way to the NBA, but was sidelined by his injury. Luckily for us, boredom drove him to start experimenting artistically, taking all the trees with bursts of sunshine behind them that he had drawn when he was a small child and putting an adult spin on them. He still finds plenty of time to play ball in his spare time, and is willing to "take any and all challenges that may be out there!"

Interview

Describe your style in one sentence:
Patterns and color tend to be a huge part of my style and kind of mold where I try and take things.

Tell us a little bit about the pieces and the inspiration behind them:
Nature is a big theme with me. I love trees, vacationing in Colorado in the wintertime is amazing. I tend to have some type of nature theme in all of my pieces.

How did you come up with the name JP33?
Pretty simple, J and P are my initials and 33 was the number I wore playing basketball. I picked 33 after a few of my favorite players, Scottie Pippen and Larry Bird :-)

What’s the first picture you can remember drawing as a child?
I actually remember drawing a ton of trees as a kid, with really simple sunbursts coming from the background. Guess I haven’t changed much, hehe.

Who are your heroes?
My parents are my heroes – I thank them as much as possible for being such great role models, being hard on me when I needed it and not letting me run amuck.

What’s been your most unusual commission?
Probably the Bong Vodka bottle design – it was awesome to work on, and is probably my favorite piece, but just the name and shape of the bottle… Let’s just say the name and bottle fit.

Who are three artists whose work your really admire at the moment?
I’m always diggin’ Charles Harper’s stuff, love Linda Zacks work and Michael Keck.

What are your vices?
Mexican food, Mexican beer, staying up late (which doesn’t happen much anymore with a six month old daughter), watching a lot of sport, crappy music.

If you had to change careers, what would be next?
Definitely something in sports. I was never good enough to be a pro, so it might be cool to coach them :-)

Are there any upcoming shows or projects you’d like to share?
I’ll be updating my site soon with some new snowboard designs as well as a few other random things.
