Etsu Meusy
Vancouver, Canada
Bio
Etsu Meusy’s work has been described as “sunny and clean” by Giant Robot and “nostalgia-tinged 70s and 80s pop cultural pastiches” by Coolhunting. We just think her rainbow colored landscapes are dreamy. Etsu blends together paint, hand drawn typography and the odd guest appearance from 80s icons like Axl Rose, The Bee Gees and the Smurfs. Her artwork has been featured every where from Nylon magazine to art books by Die Gestalten. And now: laptop art for Infectious.
Interview
Describe your style in one sentence:
Colorful and dream-like.
Tell us a little bit about the pieces and the inspiration behind them:
Paradise: if I were to create my own paradise, it would probably look like this – colorful nature, beautiful animals and a giant paint brush!
Wonderland: as a little girl, I use to wonder if clouds were edible and stars were really the size of small diamonds like they appear to be. One day I even went on an adventure to find the beginning of a rainbow. These kind of childhood memories have inspired me to create this piece.
What’s the first picture you can remember drawing as a child?
My beloved Grandpa.
Anything, really. As long as I have a good cup of coffee and music, I’m inspired.
What’s your favorite piece of art that you’ve created?
I created this piece several years ago for Neomu magazine and it is still my favorite.

Could you share three things in your work space that inspire you?
1) Each and everyone of them has own stories. for example, the pink pony was autographed by Shinro Ohtake, a famous Japanese artist. Mr. Greedy is from my childhood, he must be around 30 years old now.

2) Nowadays I spend a lot of time with my son. We read books and eat candy cakes together. Being with him is truly inspirational.

3) I love strange and funny things. Can you guess what they are?
a) coconuts
b) burnt English muffins
c) malasadas from Hawaii

If your art was music, what would it sound like?
Fluffy and poppy.
