Can you share as much as possible about the piece and how you conceived of it:
When I heard what the theme of the competition was, I got very excited and immediately felt right at home! When I’m designing different things, I often try and make things appear to be something else. So the list of ideas was endless. I thought the size was a pretty good fit and we all enjoy a good game of cards right?! This vintage style is another thing that I’m often drawn to. I love old style designs; things made in the time before computers when everything was done by hand and there was no buttons to press that make things magically appear without effort. Old style designs have much more soul. I love making things look vintage, giving it some history, visually at least if nothing else. The final touch was the name of the company, that kinda brought it all together and after all, you are, aren’t you?! ;)
If you were to describe your work to someone who’s never seen it, what would you say?
I guess it’s a sort of mixture of different artistic expressions that often come together in a project.
What’s your creative process when producing a piece of art?
It depends on what type of art/project I’m working on. I always start with a sketch no matter what project I’m doing but often it involves a research. I gather all info and elements I may need and then play around with them until what I see in my mind matches what I put on paper or screen.
Could you share an image of one of your latest sketches?
Sure…

Would you share three unique things in your workspace that inspire you?
A book of quotations and sayings – often an excellent source of inspiration, some crazy little creatures I made out of something similar to plasticine, various music CDs.
What’s the best compliment/most extreme reaction you’ve ever received in response to your work?
When I started working for a publishing house, illustrating kids books, a graphic designer who was putting them in the book said: “I never had so much fun at work or felt so much joy while working…” If my work can make just one person happy, I’m happy!
What’s the art scene like where you live?
It’s not bad but not too exciting either. I guess it gets a lot better during summer when there are lots of festivals going on all over the country.
What art is hanging on your walls at the moment?
Mostly my Dad’s paintings and some of my own paintings and illustrations.
What are you really into right now?
Right now I’m designing a lot of websites and working a lot in general. Also, I’m learning another animation program so that I can start making little movies in a near future.
What would be on your quintessential mixtape?
Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Frusciante, Skunk Anansie, Massive Attack
If your art was music, what would it sound like?
It’s sort of like a mix tape! Changing, transforming and going in different directions all the time.
What do you have as your desktop wallpaper?
Laughing Buddha – it makes me feel good! :)
What websites do you check out regularly?
I’m doing a lot of web design work so I’m checking all sorts of sites constantly. Apart from that, Infectious.
What are your vices/guilty pleasures?
Ice cream and coffee! Both are regularly being consumed in large quantities but luckily I have fast metabolism so the ice cream is not showing! :)
What’s the first picture you can remember drawing as a child?
It was a picture of an elephant from the back so it was basically a huge butt and ears! I used to draw that endlessly!
If you were a dinosaur, what kind would you be and why?
Troodon formosus – apparently it was one of the world’s smartest dinosaur. Why not!
What was your last memorable dream?
My last memorable and probably the best dream ever was a dream of unconditional love. It wasn’t so much about the content as much as it was about the feeling. I remember waking up feeling fantastic and just knowing what unconditional love is and feels like!
If you had to change careers, what would be next?
I used to think that I would become a professional dancer. That ship has sailed a long time ago and I don’t really dance at all anymore but I totally love watching professional dancers do their thing. Something in performance art.
Are there any upcoming shows or projects you’d like to share?
My brother and I are working on creating a short animated movie. A lot of fun! I’d love to do a lot more with animation in the future so now I’m in the process of polishing my animation skills.
What’s your motto?
Work to become, not to acquire.
