Interview
What’s the name of your Infectious art piece?
Koi.
Tell us a little bit about the piece and the inspiration behind it:
Part of my job as a creative director is to find images and styles that I think will resonate with people in a positive way. The koi image is something that has the right motion and feel that really lends itself well to a car.
What has it been like creating the concept art for Infectious?
I have to say hearing people’s reactions when they get the art and put it on their car has been exciting. Everyone seems really thrilled with their impact. These days many people view their cars as functional tools – a way of getting from point A to B. I think the Infectious shows people that cars can be a medium for personal expression and creativity.
You’ve done a lot of artwork for the House of Lotus Burning Man camp. What’s your most insane Burning Man memory?
Getting invited to a three-way by a really “fun” couple.
What was your first car?
First car was a 1978 VW Rabbit… I drove it until the engine block cracked (seriously).
What is your dream car?
A 1961 Mercedes 190SL.
What’s playing on repeat on your iPod this week?
A lot of downloaded breaks and dub podcasts from people all over the US.
What websites do you look at for inspiration?
Google image search (GIS)… I really like the random nature of the search results. I might be searching for photo references for one thing and come across something unexpected that sends me off in a completely new creative direction.
Can you share the last piece of artwork you did with us?

What’s the most unique medium you’ve ever worked in?
My real passion right now is working with a mixture of house paints and acrylic on plywood. I sometimes include found objects into my painting as well. This one included money and scraps of paper I collected from Mission Street in San Francisco.

If you had to draw yourself a tattoo design what would it be and where on your body would you have it?
It would a be a type design in bold letters across my chest, “Dear Embalmer, please try CPR one more time.”
If you had to change careers, what would be next?
I’d be retired.
Are there any upcoming shows or projects you’d like to share?
My biggest upcoming show is my wedding in July! But you can also check out my art while your dining at Deep Sushi on Church Street, San Francisco.
