Wall Art Frequently Asked Questions

WILL THE VINYL DAMAGE MY WALLS?

Infectious Wall Art will not damage the paint on your walls. It's pretty obvious, but if your paint is already damaged and chipped, then we can’t guarantee and are not responsible if the adhesive affects your paint job. We recommend avoiding these areas. If you’re at all concerned we recommend doing a test somewhere discreet. If you’d like a free sample to do this test email us your mailing address at testsample [at] infectious [dot] com. We’ll send you out a small vinyl sample to try out at home, free of charge.

WHAT IS INFECTIOUS WALL ART MADE OUT OF?

Our Wall Art is made of a durable and easy-to-remove vinyl material. The adhesive is secure enough to attach it to your wall, but gentle enough so that if you don’t lay it right the first time or if you want to change its position, you can do it easily. Think of it as a very strong and sticky post-it note. But remember the more that you remove and reapply, the less sticky the vinyl will become.

WHAT SURFACES CAN I PUT MY WALL ART ON?

Infectious Wall Art likes sticking to clean, smooth, interior surfaces like painted dry wall. Do not apply your vinyl to stucco, brick, wallpaper or wooden slats. Wall Art sticks best to paint with matte, satin and gloss finishes. Each of our product lines has been developed with a vinyl designed for its specific purpose. Feel free to try putting it on other flat surfaces, but we only recommend Wall Art for walls.

SHOULD I CLEAN MY WALL BEFORE APPLYING MY WALL ART?

Yes - dust your wall with a clean cloth before installing your art. If your wall is extremely dirty clean your wall with warm water only, do not use any cleaning products. Let the wall dry completely before applying the graphics.

CAN I USE INFECTIOUS ART OUTSIDE?

No, Infectious Wall Art is not designed for outdoor use.

CAN I INSTALL WALL ART IN MY BATHROOM?

Yes, just make sure that you wait for any condensation to dry out completely before install. Also, be warned that if you don't press the art down firmly and water gets under the vinyl, the adhesive may not last as long.

CAN I INSTALL WALL ART IN MY CHILD'S NURSERY?

Yes, but please make sure that you put the vinyl out of the reach of small children.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT AFTER I’VE PAINTED MY WALLS TO APPLY MY WALL ART?

Please wait at least 90 days for the paint to fully cure before installation.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO INSTALL?

It depends on your composition choice, but it will take approximately 20-30 minutes for all sizes. Make sure that you have a friend helping you out.

HOW EASY IS THE ART TO INSTALL?

For artwork larger than 12" x 12" it is essential to have two people installing. Neither of you need any previous experience but you do need to follow the instructions carefully. The thing you have to be most careful about is removing the art from the baking paper, be careful not to tear the art or let it fold on itself. Putting the art on the walls is a pretty simple job, but you do have to make sure you firmly smooth it to the wall, especially at the edges. On a scale of 1 - 10, press 7. Use a soft cloth to smooth it down rather then your fingers.

WHAT IF I SCREW UP?

If the adhesive touches itself peel it apart immediately but be careful not to stretch it. If the graphic doesn’t lay flat or creases, carefully peel off the wall and start again. The vinyl is designed to be re-positionable as long as you haven't applied any pressure. So if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN I TRY AGAIN IF I SCREW UP?

You can try two or three times, just remember that the adhesive will not be as strong every time you peel it off the wall and try again. It might gently curl up at the edges and you might need to press it down every once in a while. We recommend doing this with a cloth rather than your fingers. You don’t want to transfer dirt and oil from your fingers to the wall, as this might leave a mark when you decide the time is right to remove your vinyl.

I GOT A CREASE! WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Peel up the corner closest to the crease and then peel the vinyl a few inches past the crease and smooth it out again.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

The adhesive will last up to a year, maybe longer if you take good care of it. Though you can peel it off tomorrow and change it up for another artist if you want to.

HOW DO I REMOVE MY WALL ART?

Peel off your Wall Art from top to bottom. Do it gently and in one continuous motion.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT I NEED TO DO AFTER MY INSTALL?

The adhesive is less powerful than our car vinyl, every once in a while you may want to press down the edge of the vinyl. Remember to do this with a cloth rather than grubby fingers! Also avoid putting the art in direct sunlight as the heat may affect the adhesive and the sun may affect the colors of the vinyl.

HOW DO I CLEAN MY INFECTIOUS WALL ART?

Clean your art with water and a clean cloth, sponge or paper towel. Do not use cleaning products. Our Wall Art does not have an overlaminate, so strong cleaners may damage the inks in your art.

IS MY VINYL RE-USABLE?

The vinyl is designed to be repositionable two or three times if you don't get your ideal position the first time. It's not designed to moved from room to room several months down the line and it isn't designed to move house with you, but feel free to try. Just keep the backing paper to lay your art back down on to ensure that no dust or dirt attaches to the adhesive. Also remember that the adhesive will not be as powerful as the first time you apply it and the art may start to curl at the edges.

WHAT DO I DO IF MY VINYL STARTS TO PEEL UP?

If you spot your vinyl peeling up take a clean cloth and firmly press it back down. Do not use you fingers so that when it comes time for you to take down your Wall Art, the wall will look as pristine as when you first put your Infectious art up.

HOW LONG CAN I STORE THE VINYL?

We recommend storing the vinyl flat and installing it within six months of purchase for maximum adhesion. If the temperature and humidity are high in your storage area it may affect the adhesive. Make sure the paper backing never gets wet.

WILL THE COLOR OF MY VINYL LOOK DIFFERENT FROM THE WEBSITE?

It will probably look slightly different. The color on your computer screen will never show the true color of the vinyl.
