Car Art Frequently Asked Questions

Will the vinyl damage my car?

When applied correctly, Infectious Car Art will not damage your car's paint, unless the paint is already damaged or the car has been poorly repainted.

What is Infectious Car Art made out of?

Infectious Car Art is made of a durable and easy-to-remove vinyl material, specially developed for use on vehicles. It is very similar to the material used for advertising wraps on cars and buses. It also has a special “comply” technology to help you lay down the vinyl without getting any bubbles.

How easy is it to install?

For artwork larger than 12" x 12" it is essential to have two people installing. Neither of you need any previous experience but you do need to follow the instructions carefully. We recommend installing Infectious Car Art in temperatures between 60-80 degrees and out of direct wind and sun. For full details see the Perfect Install Guide .

How long will it take me to install?

An Icon piece will take around five minutes, an Accent Kit between 15-20 minutes, a Hood Piece about 45 minutes, a Doors Kit around 90 minutes, and Sides Kits and Full Kits take around two hours. Depending on how much of a perfectionist you are, of course.

CAN I GET MY CAR ART PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED?

We have designed all of our art to be easily installed by the customer. We firmly believe that if we can do it, you can do it! If you’re adamant, then try contacting your local sign shop and check with them about doing a custom install.

What do I do if I damage a piece of product during my install?

Infectious will sell you replacement pieces at a discounted cost within 30 days of ordering. We will require photographic evidence of the damaged piece. We only offer replacement parts for Car Art vinyl, this offer does not extend to walls or laptops.

How long does it last?

Infectious Car Art is designed to last 12-24 months. We don't recommend keeping a piece on any longer than this, because the paint underneath the vinyl is so well protected, it won't weather at the same rate.

How does the weather affect the vinyl?

Infectious Car Art won't fade or be affected in average sunny, snowy and rainy weather conditions (for 12-24 months).

Will it leave a residue?

It should not leave any residue. The only exception is if you're putting it on an antique paint job. Please do a test somewhere discreet, to make sure that any surface oxidation doesn't leave a residue from the vinyl adhesive.

Can I go through a car wash with my Infectious Car Art on?

We recommend you wait a couple days after install and avoid high pressure car washes, but after that, car wash as much as you want.

Can I wax my car?

You can wax your car with Infectious Car Art on. We recommend hand waxing rather than using a power waxer/buffer that might catch the vinyl and pull it off. Do not wax your car before installing art, as the wax makes it harder for the adhesive to stick.

Is there anything I need to do after my install?

Try to avoid very wet or cold weather (under 60 degrees) conditions for 12 hours after installation to allow your vinyl to adhere to its maximum capacity. Also clean any bird shit off your vinyl as it may stain it.

What do I do if my vinyl starts to peel up?

If you spot your vinyl peeling up deal with it immediately. Take your finger and test underneath the flap to see if the adhesive is still tacky. If it is, clean the bit of car underneath it, heat the vinyl with a heat gun or hairdryer and try and re-stick it. If there’s no stick left, it means the adhesive is coated with dirt and all you can do is either trim it off or let it hang loose.

Can I apply car art to vintage cars?

Yes you can! Infectious Car Art looks beautiful on vintage cars. The only thing to bear in mind is that if the paint or clear coat is old and weak there is a higher risk the vinyl may pull off some of it during removal. We recommend doing a test of a small piece somewhere discreet before full installation.

How long do I have to wait after I've had my car painted to apply Infectious Car Art?

Please wait at least 60 days for the paint to fully cure before installation.

Is my vinyl re-usable?

It is not re-usable. When you remove the vinyl it will come off in strips and stretch out of shape.

Can people steal or vandalize my Infectious Car Art?

It is not re-usable, so someone can't steal it and reuse it. Someone could vandalize the design and pull it off, but then again... there's always a chance some evil person could key your car, or siphon the gas out of your tank.

Do I have to follow the way the artist has laid it out?

Only if you want to. That's the fun part about Infectious vinyl art - you get to unleash your inner artist and decide where you want your art to go on your car.

WILL THE COLOR OF MY VINYL LOOK DIFFERENT FROM THE WEBSITE?

It will probably look slightly different. The color on your computer screen will never show the true color of the vinyl.

How do I remove the vinyl?

We recommend using a hairdryer for removal. Gently heating the vinyl prior to removing it warms up the adhesive and makes it easier to strip off. (Please note: you can peel the practice piece vinyl off straight after application using your fingers).

Can I put Infectious Car Art on my vehicle's windows?

Yes you can, but only on windows that don't open. Make sure you don't block your visibility!

Can I put my car vinyl on surfaces other than my car?

Each of our product lines has been developed with a vinyl designed for its specific purpose. Our Car Art vinyl has a powerful adhesive which will make your art stick to your car through harsh winters and soapy car washes, but not is strong that it will hurt your paint job when you remove it. We recommend avoiding putting it on the walls inside your home. But hey, if you want to apply amazing art to your dishwasher, go for it! (Just be sure to send us photos).

Can I share a photo?

Absolutely. Send photos of your Infectious product in action to photos (at) infectious (dot) com.

How long can I store the vinyl?

We recommend storing the vinyl flat and installing it within a year of purchase for maximum adhesion.
