Introductions (of sorts)
|
But I’m kinda lame at making good introductions but I DID want to introduce over here. I’m Rhys, I’m a freelance illustrator from a tiny little east coast town in NSW, Australia. I’ve been a Popdeck user for awhile now and when Infectious began to consume Popdeck, myself, Steve, Greg & Mike from the Popdeck forums were busy talking with Tim (at the request of Parker Newman) about the merger of the sites and our thoughts and feedback and have been going back and forth for the last week or so. It’s been a really constructive conversation and I’m really looking forward to getting involved here at Infectious, I think Popdeck has found a great new home, and I really just wanted to say howdy to everyone! You can find me at www.the-plastic-age.com should you want more! Thanks guys, Rhys- |

Hello all … I’m Greg from Rhys’s post above. First all … I am psyched about this change and am really impressed at what I see here over at Infectious. Hopefully the addition of all us crazy skateboard designers is a good thing for the existing community. about me: I live in a suburb about an hour away from Detroit Michigan in the USA. I started existing in 1974. Started skating in 1986. Snowboarding in 1988. Became a graphic designer in 1995. Quit and opened my own skateshop in 2004. Got married that same year. Became a father in 2006. Closed skateshop in 2007. Back to work as a GD. Welcomed my second son in 2008. I was over at popdeck for about a year. I’m excited to see what the future holds here. I just submitted an iphone skin a couple days ago. Working on a new deck desgin for the new contest. I am learning to silk screen my own decks under the brand BURB – selling my screened decks locally … www.burbskate.com. tho most of what you see on my site is available from DeckPeck. I have no problem taking a GOOD critique. And will call out a bad critique – ESPECIALLY “This sucks” type comments given to anyone. We’re here as a community and should help one another grow. |

Hi Rhys, Greg and to all the other newest members of our family. I’d like to introduce myself too. My name’s Joey, I’m the artist relations lady over here at Infectious. I’ve read pretty much every single post that ever went down on the Popdeck forum and it’s our goal to learn from and radically improve upon your forum experience over there. The forum is definitely the best place to post questions so that when the team answers our whole community can learn from the response. But also wanted to let you guys know my personal email address – joey@infectious.com, so that you feel like you can reach out to us and get a personal and swift response if and when you ever need it. Really looking forward to seeing all of your art in the near future. Best of luck in the deck contest! |

Hello folks, My name is Rob, I’m a 23 year old freelance illustrator and designer living in Maryland, and have won at both Infectious and Popdeck. When I first heard about the site changes, I instantly got to thinking about all the awesome possibilities and about how I could be a part of the fun. Here’s to one of the best sites out there getting even better. This and That: Feel free to contact me about anything. Have fun! |

Hello and welcome! I’ve only recently found out about Infectious through the I <3 Blogging contest which was advertised at Wordpress where I blog. This site is really great and offers exposure for many artists including myself. I haven’t heard of Popdeck until recently, probably because I don’t skate, but if design is your forte then I’m sure we’ll all get along. Something about me… I just turned 22 last month, still in school studying Graphic Design at Georgia State. My designs have a drawing quality to them because I love to draw above all else. I will also be submitting to the Popdeck contest soon, so hope to have your support! Thanks! @Tim: I find it awesome that Infectious is located next to a Vietnamese food shop mainly because I’m Vietnamese lol. If you haven’t figured it out (I’m sure you have), Vietnamese food is what I call un-perfect food. You are expected to add your own concoction to the dish by throwing pepper, fish sauce, or whatever you please on it. So don’t be afraid to do it. |

ok – I know I’m new here … but am I the only one who thinks the “Show the love” meter looks like a penis?!?! |
created over 2 years ago
|
|
|
yeah… wasn’t intended that way… but it is rather phallic. it is on the list of things to redesign. the combination of a phallic voting meter w/ the love metaphor and a company named Infectious does get to be a little much, no? |

haha … it’s cool tho. All the imagery and verbage of the site is light and funny … so it fits, even if it wasn’t supposed to be that way. At least it doesnt get LONGER as you give it more love! :) |

Hi, just joined up so I figured I’d jump in with the whole intro thing. I’m Charlie, and I’ve been at Popdeck, mostly just lurking and voting, so that’s how I ended up here. I’m a high school art teacher, father of 2, and I like longboarding and comics. I like what I’ve seen here and look forward to seeing more awesome art. btw, Coop is here? THE Coop?! Awesome. /end fanboy outburst |

Hey Raz here: from about 30 south of Atlanta. Subbed a few at Popdeck and casting my dice here now. Freelance illustrator and sometimes designer. Always looking for a fun project to work on. I’m into old b-flick horror movies, the old Lucha Libre (masked Wrestlers) from the 70’s, comics, music and anything pop culture related…which kinda shows through on my art. Looking forward to designing something besides skate boards here…maybe some ipod and laptop designs..seems fun enough to do. |

Hello all. I just wanted to introduce myself as well as I’m a new member of the team. My name is Christina Richards and I’m a Artist Relations Intern here at Infectious. Some of you might hear from me at one point or another as I work directly with the lovely Joey Stevenson. My previous life was spent doing contract work for an internet music company (I’m a bit of a music nerd), and I’m excited to be working for Infectious because I can focus on my other love, visual art. I recently graduated from college with my BA in Art History- I’m an art appreciator, not an artist. But I’ve made it a goal in my life to surround myself with lots of creativity. I grew up in the Sierra Foothills of California (in the forest), but I’ve lived in SF for four years now and consider myself a city girl. I also play the banjo- Appalachian style! |

Hello everyone, my name is Aunia Kahn. Glad to be a part, and giving this a try to see if my work will work well on this platform. Below is my bio, since I am not too good about talking about myself in first person. Cheers! BIOGRAPHY By 2005, a good friend suggested she share her artistic vision with the world in attempts that others may find their own solace, and thereby also bringing herself to another level of healing by opening up. Initially extremely put off by the idea, she changed her mind with hopes for a better future for herself and others. That December her career officially launched with her first exhibition which garnered immediately interest in fine art gallery showings across the United States and internationally. Kahn’s work has been shared with the public in over 175 showings to date. Kahn’s work combines many disciplines, wrapping them into one hybrid art form melding photography, painting and collage. Each work makes use of her own likeness in movie-like stills of elegant decadence, varied taboo and often controversial subject matter to challenge the viewer, their understanding and preconceived notions; yet she connects through honest feeling and emotions. She invariably designs, builds, and executes characters, non-existent places, dreams, illusions, fears and fables into creation. Aunia Kahn’s work is constantly growing and changing shape, earlier works dealt more with her past, while her more recent series delves into present emotional conflicts and inspirations. Aunia’s images, likeness and presence have been featured, interviewed and seen on FOX News LA, REFUSED Magazine, Celebrity Artist Michael Bell Radio Show, Juxtapoz On-line, Devolution Magazine (UK), Grab Magazine (Italy), Crawling Tunes Magazine (Germany), SNAP Magazine (UK), Rimfrost Magazine (Norway) and Forbidden Whispers Magazine (UK) which are but a small sampling of her exposure. In 2007 Le Bourgeois Vineyards featured “Rousing the Whirlwind” on a limited edition collectors series of bottled wines. She also creates music, lyrics, and words for the band AfterChain, is a graphic and web designer, and the creator of the Silver Era Tarot card deck. Aunia currently resides in Illinois with her 4 German Shepherds and 2 black cats in her secret closet. |

Hi Jonman, I’m presuming you submitted to the Cut to the Core challenge for Mac laptops? One of the rules of this contest is that “Designs need to be composited onto a laptop”. We require all art to be mocked up as a laptop skin on a Mac laptop so that we can see what your vision looks like. Feel free to email if you’d like to chat some more – joey@infectious.com |

I am currently 28 and have a love for graphic design, sign painting, graffiti, fine art, music, fashion, fixed gears, beers and life in general. I submitted my first design to the Cut to the Core competition. I joined the competition to challenge myself while waiting to start an internship. I am glad that I have found Infectious and hope to become an active member of your community. I hope that you all enjoy my first submitted piece. You all are very talented. |

I look forward to getting feedback, as it’s oh so hard to be objective about your own stuff. Seen some work that I’ve liked here and look forward to seeing more. |

Hello (formerly Aloha)! I’m the Steve that RhysMcDonald mentioned in the first post way up at the top of this. I’m a little late to the party… is there any beer left? Hope so! Alrighty, here it goes: I recently moved from Honolulu, Hawaii after living there for 7 years to San Diego, California to further my career as a Graphic Designer. The island of Oahu proved to be limiting (go figure) so I had to leave my leis behind. Things are started to get crazy and it’s looking like the move was the best idea ever! It has been recently announced to the public that I am the Grand Prize Winner of the 1800 Tequila Essential Artists Series 2 competition. What this means is that my “Intrusion” design will be placed on limited edition bottles of 1800 Silver Tequila to be sold in stores across the U.S. coming very soon. I’ll just leave it at that to be respectful to this wonderful website. And before that happened my “Mountain Attack” design was released on shirts for Quiksilver Clothing. So, I’ve been staying busy by creating designs for apparel, footwear, and vinyl toys but I would like very much to keep branching out into the world of custom products. That is why I’m here! I am impressed with the quality and type of products that are offered here. I also admire and appreciate all of the art that has already been made into the various products so far. I look forward to seeing all of the new designs that people create in the future. With that said, good luck to everyone and may the best creations win! |

Never too late Steve! We have several pints and chasers waiting for you :) And this applies to everyone – but don’t be shy about publicizing your artistic achievements and if you’ve got shows coming up and all that good stuff. That’s exactly what these forums are for and we love hearing what’s going on in the lives of our community. Loved your MIMOBOT submissions btw Steve. Happy to see that you sneaked them in there at the last minute! |

Hello Everyone! I’m very excited to be here. I’ve been illustrating and designing for 11 yrs. now. I’ve designed a lot of things in that time. (logos, advertisements, billboards, layout work, album covers, etc.) Although for the past few years I’ve mostly been illustrating, trying to make a name for myself. Everything from apparel to album covers; to a little editorial work and hopefully a children’s book this winter if everything goes well. I’m excited to learn a few things here and possibly share some things I’ve learned over the years. I’m a pretty humble dude, so if you ever have a question or anything. Shoot me an email. Thanks! |

Hey creative people—I’m Rachel from Philadelphia (sometimes known as Thirsty Fly) and I have been in graphic design for a long time, but only the last two years getting back to drawing (my roots!). I have to say drawing is a lot more fun than my day job. I am so impressed with the talent I see showcased on this site—both in the art that is available for purchase and the artists subbing too. My favorite things to do are eat Cheerious, run through the forest, and cry over spilled milk. Finally, I have to say that whoever designed this site—from the look and feel to the intuitive functionality—is seriously genius. My only criticism is that you need to add the “remember me” checkbox on your login. You will get more consistent traffic that way! Cheers to all of you! |

Hi all, I’m Rod from Connecticut. I’ve been into digital art for the past ten years and lots of other forms of creating for eons prior to my digital awakening. Was a mod at an art site for a year and handed back the keys just recently to spend more time creating. I work with 2D, 3D, drawing on a cintiq, and photography, still can’t figure out what I like best, so most of what I do is spontaneous work done in the “zone”. Peace |

Whoa I am here now since a month and didn’t notice the forum :D So hi everyone! I am a freelance graphic designer, 26 years old living at the Baltic Sea in Germany and near completing my diploma. I really love Illustration but had almost no time to improve my skills like I wish since the last 2 years, because there was so much work to do! Among my studies I became a self-employed person and founded a small film production company. Now diploma is near and I have more time for illustration! I really love competitions and chances to make my work public in such a great way like infectious offers it! Really love this website and I will try to participate every now and then! , If you’re interested leave a comment on my blog: http://andreakoester.blogspot.com/ Cya! |

Hey everyone! I’m an artist here in San Francisco. I’m new to the forums but not new to Infectious. I’ve been around since the beginning on the production side of things. I’ll be pretty involved with the forums from here on out so I welcome your thoughts and involvement! Don’t forget! The October Incognito contest is on! So get cranking and fool us all! |

Hi everyone! I don’t know am I an artist or not. I submitted my arts (maybe) in 2 years ago then stop to making art design until today. It feels hard to get any idea today, because I watched another artist’s designs (it makes me feel jeaoulous why they are blessed with brilliant idea and excellent technique). I hope infectious not only a place where I buy something, but also a place that give me more ideas and techniques in art designs. The last, I would say thanks God you gimme |

Hey everybody, I joined about a month ago and submitted a designed at yesterday at 11:59 for the WinterFree4All. The concept is OK for a laugh but not what I pictured when I went to make it. There are some good artists here and hope to learn how to use line and color better. My designs will some very tame compared to most everyone’s but I think art wise I’ll learn. I’m using Gimp and DAZ 3D but that doesn’t quite produce the illustrated children’s book look I’m after. It looks like I need need to invest in a good vector drawing program (I have Anime Studio 7 Pro) and maybe a new tablet pc to do what you guys to. And what’s this renaissance of banjo players? When I lived in Switzerland of all places my coworker also was an excellent banjo player and even toured through the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Appalachians once. And now Steve Martin is showing up everywhere again playing. All I can say is old time music rocks. |

Hello, my name is Ashley, and I just joined the other night! I am about to return to college as a graphic design student. I am a fractal artist; I mainly use Ultra Fractal and Mandelbulb 3D. I also make surreal photo manipulations and other digital art using paint.NET. I started getting into digital art when I downloaded paint.NET to make some signatures. The program had so many features, and the forums had many great tutorials. I was instantly hooked! I still haven’t gotten any banners or signatures done. :) There are many terrific designs here, I hope I can fit in. You can also find my gallery on deviantART. http://peacefrog777.deviantart.com/ |

Hi, new to the site. Found it through an online acquaintance. Looks pretty fun. I work help desk as my full time job but do the digital illustration thing on the side. Sell a few other sites but always looking for new places to showcase my drawings. I posted a couple of pieces for consideration but have more I may post if this works out. |
