Hello there!!! |
created almost 3 years ago

|
you should upload 1 image for each design. if you want to show the design on a laptop and iphone, do it all in the same image versus uploading 2 images. up to you if you display your art on 1, multiple or no products. what ever you think best represents your art. |

The instructions for uploading art tells how to do it for Apple (I believe) and I have a PC (sorry). On a PC you don’t get the option of how large, or small, you want to save a file. Any suggestions? |

C2Design… which step are you referring to? |

The step I am refering to is saving a Jpeg from photoshop. It only gives a choice of the quality (from 1-12). It doesn’t give a choice of pixel ratio. I am trying to figure this one out, but if you, or anyone, has suggestions please let me know. Thanks. |

Hi Skylerskinner, Sorry we don’t provide that service at Infectious. We have two contests running – Open Submissions and our current deck contest. The winners of these contests are invited to make products with Infectious. That’s the way that art gets added to the catalog. Feel free to email me directly if you have any questions – joey@infectious.com. Thanks! |

This is probably a simple question and answer. I want to submit a design for the “cut to the core contest”— My design fits the bottom area of the template provided. (.eps template). The step I’m having trouble with is compositing to the laptop. My design integrates the apple logo in the middle and I don’t know how to match it up on the laptop. I tried using the photoshop distort and skew tools. Any suggestions would be a big help? Thank You :) |

so17ccer, First it would be good not to include the apple logo in the design (part of the submission guidelines), meaning it is going to be cut out. I am sure you have taken this into consideration, if not you may have to adjust the design to account for this. If you have simply used the eps doc as a start, use pathfinder to remove the apple shape from the design first, then move on to the compositing, The easiest way that we have found is to got to “edit” scroll down to “transform” then to “distort” Once the image is selected start dragging points to the four corners of the laptop image until it distorts the image into the same perspective of the laptop image. Hope this is helpful. |

I got a quetion about number of artworks that participant can upload. Why some guys can upload a three absolutely similar images , like Raphael Sonsino for example, but my second, and in my opinion my best artwork is declined? And I didn’t got any comments why it declined. Its unfair. |

goingtofar As far as your artwork question goes, we can pretty much work with most file formats provided to us. If your work is in Photoshop, saving it out as a layered Photoshop file (PSD) at 300 dpi would be ideal. As for Corel, saving it as a .EPS would be great as we work in Adobe Illustrator. |

Hi Fillzy, Thanks for your question, this is exactly what the forums are designed for and hopefully I can shed a little light for you and other artists on our process. We get a huge volume of submissions sent to us every day which unfortunately means that we cannot accept every single design. It is not an exact science and is obviously a slightly subjective thing based on our past experience of what our community tends to resonate with. We want art that gets moved into the voting gallery to do as well as possible after all. We do try to be as fair as possible overall. With specific regards to Raphael Sonsino, he submitted a large number of designs of his animal decks, we selected what we felt were the strongest ones and accepted three because he explained to us that he envisioned them as a themed series of skate decks. If you would like to chat about this some more feel free to email me at joey@infectious.com Thanks, Joey |

I already have my design on a 8×11 copy paper. The only photo generated programs I have iPhoto and Aperture :/. Honestly I have barely any Mac photoshoping knowledge but I do have creativity. Ooh and to mikeyion, I bought your product :P. What is the age range if there is one (because you would be surprised by my age)? THANKSS |

You need to be able to digitize your art … One way would be to use a scanner. Keep in mind that print designs need to be 300 dpi at 100%. Scanning in color (RGB). Another way would be to take a photo of your art with a camera. As high of a resolution as your camera will go. Use natural light and a tri-pod. You will need 2 images. One low res image for your submission. And one large, high resolution image in case it gets picked, for printing. Always work in high resolution FIRST, then downsample for the submission. Once you have the images on your computer, resize them to the standard that Infectious needs to post an entry. 800 × 800 pixels. Again – for your full-size art, keep in mind that a 1200 × 1200 pixel image would only print out to a 4″ × 4″ image. So if you need a 17″ × 10″ image (say for a laptop skin), multiply the inches by 300 (dpi). So you would need a 5100 × 3000 pixel image. |

it is up to you to composite your image onto the laptop – or place the image on the laptop. as for using the word apple….. i think it is ok. but depends on the context. we can’t create a product that looks like it was made by the company Apple. but if it is the word apple as in referencing the fruit… you are fine. for instance, if apple were used in the design, there wouldn’t be any issue with it. http://www.infectious.com/voting/lawrencejames/fruit-stickers/3298 (it does say ‘apples’ in there…. not sure if it says ‘apple’) |

@Kon-Fusion The Apple logo on the laptop photograph we provide is actually composited on there, so it may very well not be exactly centered. If you would like, I think it would be easier to just lay your image onto the laptop and then composite in your own Apple logo afterwards. |

Gary – can I check how big the files is that your trying to upload? Is the jpeg is over 250kb the site won’t accept it. If you’re on a mac you can click on the jpeg with apple and i and it will tell you the size. if it’s over 250kb you can follow the instructions on this page: http://www.infectious.com/submissions/open/get_started. Just click on the orange JPG Importing Instructions link. I’m on joey@infectious.com. Best of luck! |

Hi inalican, Depends what submissions you’re talking about. If it’s in Critique then I can do it on your behalf. Email me at joey@infectious.com and let me know. As for number of submissions, we ask that artists don’t submit tons of pieces willy-nilly. We recommend spacing out your submissions and focusing on your strongest one to two designs per week. If you have several pieces you would like to submit, that’s great but please don’t submit them all at once. We don’t like to flood the gallery with tons of submissions by the same artist; it’s just not fun for the rest of the community and will ultimately result in low scoring :( Hope that helps! |

Okay, first I drew and colored a mimobot design. And they said good start, admit it for others to give me advice. So I did that. Then, I started coloring my designs on the computir and got the same result. I don’t mind submitting them for other artists to give meadvice first, but I am frustrated with infectous for not giving me a reason for the rejection AND for not answering simple questions like; " are black and white considered one of the 8 colors"? |

|
|
|
Hi Autumn, sorry it’s taken us a while to get back to you. Yes black and white are considered one of the 8 colors. We haven’t rejected any of your designs – we’ve asked you to move them to Critique – which means that we feel that with a little feedback from the community that the design can become an even stronger contender. If you’d like some more detail feedback feel free to email me at joey@infectious.com – I’m currently on vacation and will be back and ready to answer any qs on Monday. |

@Tunaaa .psd files are native Photoshop files and are readable only in Photoshop. There is also a .eps version of the submission kit in the .zip file that you download. A .eps is a more standard file type and may work in the program you’re using. |

Hey, I’m trying to create a laptop skin design but I’m getting confused with the dimensions- you say it has to be 15" by 10" but on the submissions info you say it has to be 650x to 800px. If I increase the size of the image to 15" by 10", then the pixel dimensions go through the roof. What do I do? |

@hairgod1 If you’re having trouble sizing images through Photoshop, there are many resources on the web on how to do just that. Here’s a YouTube video that may help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qu5adJfxuhw We suggest not using Microsoft Paint for creating your submission. |

For the tees there’s an 8 color maximum. For skins and skateboards – no limitation – go wild! |

I’d like to place a custom order, is there a way to just send you an .ai or .eps file rather than using your online customization tool? Are there templates that I can use? I think ‘content type’ is referring to where you are wanting your submission to go, especially with the current ‘Incognito’ contest which is now open – so there maybe be confusion over where you are submitting your design too, general open submissions/ contest submissions……. i may be wrong. |

It’s still under open submission but only in critique section. I think the critique section for “incognito” is filed separately. even so, how do i submit it to voting? i was thinking of submitting another and have the other one deleted.. |

@ergg-13 normally you have to resubmit a new version with a different name as our system does not allow multiple designs with the same name. Let me know what design in Critique you want deleted and I can help you with that (joey@infectious.com). Once the name has been removed from the system you should be able to upload your amended version to Open Submissions. Hope that helps! |

it might not be the best way, but in photoshop I’d take a flattened image and go edit > transform > distort > and then line the corners of your image up with the corners of the device photo. Again – there may be a better way, but this works alright for 650 px wide images. |

I’m designing a concept right now with the thought of designing for car vinyls primarily to start out. I don’t quite understand how the multiple format idea works. The reason I’m confused is because of what seems to be saying two different things. First it says that designs will be applied in as many formats as will fit but then there are the templates for designing for the different formats such as cars, devices, etc… Does this mean I submit in multiple sizes/formats of the same design or what? Please help. I’m new and anxious to get my first designs up! |

Hi, I’m very new here, yesterday I joined this site. I discovered infectious on the blog of nate frizzell, someone’s work I began to learn to know (and love) at society 6, and so as he is an artist who paints, I made the step to join this site here, because I’m an artist too, with mostly paintings. as I am a member on the site of society 6, I had the opportunity to see my work printed on t-shirts and laptopskins and so…which I find a very nice idea (in europe and especially belgium where I’m from, you don’t see these things so often as in america, I talk about laptop-, I-phone and I-pod-skins), and I find it again here on this site, but here there are contests too, what makes it even greater!! it’s a beautifull way to spread out the work af artists allover the world!! but now…how do I begin, I don’t understand…I understand that I need to have submission to upload any of my works…but how can I do this? yesterday when I joined I began to create (the create-button) a print, so I uploaded one of my works from my pc and now it seems that I have a print in my shop…but that’s not the wright way to do, I think… I saw on the reading here above that I have to put my work in “open submission”, but I don’t find out where I can do this… I even don’t have the blue icon “artist” on my name… |

mgbeers, Please excuse us for the response delay. You can design for any product you like. The best thing to do would be to design for cell phone and laptop skins as the many variations of those would maximize your sellability. It may work best to design for a laptop that a portion of could scale down to or crop to cell phone size. Alternatley you could have a variation of a design made for laptops and then one for cell phones/ipods/etc. Hope that helps! |

Hello Guys I want to send my submission tomorrow (March 3) but I cant find anywhere an option to submit the 300dpi template based (ipad, laptop, etc). I quote: “The image must be exactly 650px wide by up to 800px tall, and should be saved as a 24-bit PNG or a high quality JPG, whichever is smaller in size. Max file size is 250Kb”. Are the templates just for us to test our designs? Many thanx! |
